Step aerobics is a creative, fun, and very challenging exercise to burn fat and improve the condition of the heart and lungs. Choreographed routines are performed to music using a raised platform. Patterns of movement and directions stepping on and off the bench challenge the feet and arms. Movements are callisthenic in nature. Participants can expect to improve agility, coordination, and endurance. Classes may also include core work and resistance training. Step classes are available for beginner through advanced fitness levels, in addition to specialty classes.

Trained instructors lead Group Strength & Toning programs to ensure that you will learn proper form and technique while achieving maximum results. In addition to Total Body workouts, classes are available that target specific muscle groups.
You’ll work the major muscle groups of your upper body and lower body during this total body workout—plus enjoy abdominal work stabilize and strengthen the core muscle group. The instructor will lead the class in a variety of exercises using resistance equipment, body weight, stability balls, free weights and more to keep participants engaged and challenged.

Most popular exercises, such as running and cycling, focus on the lower body. Not much attention is paid to the trunk, or core, of the body. Core muscles--the abdomen, chest and back—-are responsible for stabilizing the rest of the body. Having a solid core creates a foundation for all activities, and is especially important when you add a heavy load, such as weights to your workout. The YMCA instructor will lead participants through core exercises that create balance between the muscles of the abdominal and the back.

These classes are focused on strengthening and toning the major muscle groups of the lower body, particularly the quadriceps, hamstrings and gluteals. The instructor will lead participants through a variety of exercises designed to improve core body balance and strength as well as shape and tone the lower body. These Crosstraining classes combine a set of cardiovascular exercises to raise your heart rate and burn calories plus resistance exercises to tone and sculpt your muscles. For example, we will blend high/low aerobics with step, toning, strengthening, and stretching. Designed to provide a fresh workout, we offer a variety of crosstraining classes, and the exercises change often. Participants select the intensity level. Programs are available for all fitness levels, beginner to advanced.

Boot Camp is a high-intensity, motivational style fitness class. With the instructor acting in a "drill-sergeant" capacity, the group will go through an intense combination of cardio, strength and balance exercises. Not usually recommended for novice exercisers because of its intensity, boot camp is a rewarding fitness experience for those looking for challenge and excitement.

Feeling energized, strong and connected!
Pilates emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. It is one of the most popular exercise systems in the country largely because Pilates works so well for a wide range of people. Athletes and dancers love it, as do seniors, women rebounding from pregnancy, and people who at various stages of physical rehabilitation.
Core strength is the foundation of Pilates exercise. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement. Exercises are performed on a mat.
Classes are available for all fitness levels.
This class employs the most widely practiced form of yoga, Hatha. Hatha yoga refers to a set of physical exercises (known as asanas or postures), and sequences of asanas, designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. Best for beginners, in this class students will perform poses one at a time with a "rest" in between. More experienced students will be equally challenged. Hatha yoga helps you to develop strength and flexibility, as you bring attention to breath, which helps to calm and to focus the mind.

Studio Cycling is an indoor cycling class that packs an intense cardiovascular workout. Set to pulsating music, cycling classes are led by an instructor who coaches students through cycling adventures up steep hills, over flat roads and flying downhill.
Participants manage the tension on their bikes to accomodate individual fitness levels. There's no need to worry about cars, traffic lights or pedestrians. Studio Cycling enables you to concentrate on good form (abdominals up, back neutral, elbows tucked in) so that you can build endurance.

Each year the YMCA trains and certifes thousands of people to build public safety assets and healthy lifestyle resources for the community.

For Students entering Grade 10. This unique program focuses on developing self-confidence, problem solving, communication skills, valuing diversity and leadership techniques. During each session, LITs will participate in a three day adventure trip, take on our high ropes course, engage in a community service project and work together to plan and present one of camp’s daily chapels. This program is for teens that are seeking an exciting way to increase their leadership abilities. Each session is limited to 16 participants.

Mature, enthusiastic teens develop leadership skills while learning the fundamentals of working with children. During the summer, CITs explore problem solving, communication skills, program skills, and effective leadership skills. Teens who successfully complete the program are given primary consideration for staff positions at YMCA Camps for the following summer.
