Warren Branch Scheduled to Cease Operations, Members Invited to Remain with the YMCA Family

As a result of the current economic environment, the Executive Committee of the YMCA of Metro Detroit Board of Directors has determined that the YMCA can no longer absorb the financial loss of the operation of our Warren Family YMCA facility.

The facility will cease operation on Friday, April 24, 2009.

Warren Branch members are encouraged to retain their membership with the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit Association, joining one of 12 other branch locations in southeast Michigan. “Our commitment to serving the community of Warren remains,” said Scott Walters, executive vice president and chief operating officer for the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. “Parents and families seeking YMCA Day Camp, youth sports, adult sports and exercise will be warmly welcomed at our Macomb Family YMCA, Lakeshore YMCA, South Oakland YMCA and other YMCA facilities.”

Over the past 10 years, the Warren Family YMCA facility has suffered from the same economic consequences that have hit the greater Warren community. Much to Y leadership’s disappointment, the drastic decline in this economy, combined with the loss of membership to community-owned facilities over the past four years, led to this unfortunate consequence.
