Fall Fun Has Arrived!

The kids are back in school and that means that the Carls YMCA is about to kick off its Fall I session. Classes begin September 12th, so there is still time to sign-up for a program that catches your interest. Don’t forget, registration does continue after the start of the session, so if you decide a week or two in that you would like to join a class or activity, you can still do so. We want to see you having fun and staying healthy!

With the new session comes a plethora of group exercise opportunities that cater to a variety of interests and goals. For those of you that are interested in a full body workout, and having a blast while doing so, ZUMBA may be the perfect fit for you! Classes take place on Tuesdays, 5:15-6:10 pm and Sundays, 10:05-11:00 am. Dance your way to a healthier you. Please visit our website or the front desk to register.

If variety is what you’re after, try out our Dance Combo Class! Featuring a mix of several different dance styles, giving you the opportunity to get a little taste of each, this program is great for all ages and fitness levels. Class will be held on Tuesdays, from 7:00-7:50 pm in the gym. Register today!

Each and every individual has a unique set of goals when it comes to health and happiness, and that is why we have developed a program that allows you to mold and shape your own workout to fit your specific needs. By purchasing a “Build Your Own Workout Punch Card,” you can pick and chose a combination of paid for classes that will best help you reach your full potential. For more information, please visit the front desk.

What if you want to take a group exercise class, but you can only attend a few times during the session? Why not just drop in?! For those of you that have busy, ever changing schedules, you may want to take advantage of our drop-in fees, which allow you to pay for each class individually after the second week of the session. It’s all the excitement without the commitment! All it takes is a quick stop at the front desk and you are good to go!

Sports and aquatic classes are also available for registration, and they are filling up quickly. Please take a look at our entire Fall course list in the online Program Guide above, or our printed course book at the front desk.

It’s time for our annual Swing for Kids Dinner Dance and Live Auction! The event will be held at Baker’s of Milford on Saturday, September 26 at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $50 per person and are still available for purchase at the front desk. The auction will include many unique, fun items and all proceeds will go to Huron Valley Educational Foundation, which provides grants and scholarships to the surrounding community.

Halloween? It’s hard to believe, but it will be here before you know it! Let the Carls Y help you make this year’s night of candy, costumes and fun more affordable. Take part in our First Annual Carls Costume Swap. Saving money is easy! First, stop into Child Watch and drop off any of your gently used costumes and accessories and receive a voucher, worth $1-$10 (worth will depend on the determined value of the costume/accessory). Then, bring your voucher in from October 16-31 and pick out a new costume!

There is something for everyone here at the Y! Let us help you find what you’re looking for!

America on the Move Week at the YMCA – September 20-27

America On the Move Week with the YMCA is all about the small changes we can make in our habits that add up to big benefits for long-term health. Research from America On the Move Foundation has shown that incorporating healthier behavior into our daily routines at home, work and school does make a difference. More specifically, research shows that achieving energy balance—energy in (food and drink) vs. energy out (physical activity) is an effective approach to healthy weight management. Adding just 2,000 extra steps and eating 100 fewer calories each day are enough to help most Americans prevent the current average annual weight gain of 1-2 pounds.

Join us at your branch the week of Sept. 20-27, 2008 and start learning how small chances can lead to a big success. Meanwhile, download these resources to help you get started.
