The holiday season is here! Celebrate by participating in all of the unique, fun programs and events coming to the Carls Family YMCA
Won’t be long before school is out for the holidays, and the Y is the perfect place for your child to come and enjoy crafts, swimming, playtime and more! Open to children ages 3-5, Break Camp offers a wide variety of options for parents and their children and will be running: December 21-23, 28-31. Please pick up an informational card at the front desk for details on pricing and scheduling.

Drop your child off in the care of our Child Watch staff and enjoy an evening out. Maybe you need some extra time to prepare for the big Thanksgiving feast? Or maybe just want some time out on the town? We have you covered.There will be Pizza, Games, Crafts and Fun for the kids. Please have your children bring a can of food to give to our local food bank. It makes a huge difference in the lives of families. Sign up by Nov. 23 and receive $5 off: $17/members, $19/non-members.

Burn off those calories before sitting down and feasting on turkey and stuffing! Stop in for our annual Thanksgiving Day Aerob-A-Thon to benefit the Strong Kids Campaign! A perfect way to feel less guilty about that big holiday meal, the event takes place on Thanksgiving morning from 9-11 am, and features a wide variety of open group exercise classes. Join us in downtown Milford for the annual Holiday Parade on Saturday, November 28th at 10:00 am. March with YMCA staff and participants in our Youth Sports and Character Counts Preschool. Families are encouraged to bring a decorated wagon or bike to cruise down the street in. Sure to be a perfect way to kick off the season, don’t miss out!

Create memories that will last a lifetime! Open to all young girls and their fathers, this event will be night to remember. Featuring games, dancing, snacks and more, admission is $30 per couple. Join Milford Rotary and the Milford Marching Band in giving back to our community and helping fill the pantry shelves at Community Sharing. The food collected in our community will stay in our community to help feed families in our community.
Bring a non-perishable food item to the truck parked downtown Milford in the Milford Auto Parking lot on the day of the Christmas parade. Pet food will also be collected in a separate vehicle.

Santa will make a stop at the Carls Family YMCA on Sunday, December 13th from 11:00 am-1:45 pm to find out what all the good boys and girls want for Christmas this year! Bring your camera and get a picture on Santa’s lap, and then enjoy a waffle and pancake breakfast. It’s still the best advice out there. From avoiding the H1N1 virus to your annual winter cold, the thorough washing of hands and regular use of hand sanitizer are among the most effective measures you can take to avoid getting sick. Quite simply, washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.
Recent studies about hand-to-face contact and basic hygiene practices from college dorms and grade schools to workplaces and homes confirm that those who regularly wash their hands and use hand sanitizer get sick less often. While certainly not a cure-all, this common-sense measure can help you stave off viruses like the flu that are primarily spread by coughing or sneezing and infected surfaces.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that you wash your hands with soap and warm water for 15 to 20 seconds. When soap and water are not available, alcohol-based disposable hand wipes or gel sanitizers may be used. If using gel, rub your hands until the gel is dry. The gel doesn't need water to work; the alcohol in it kills the germs on your hands.

The YMCA of Burlington County’s Women's Opportunity Center (WOC) is dedicated to improving the lives of women who have lost their primary source of income due to separation, divorce, death or disability of a spouse and are trying to support their families. Since 1990, the WOC has served more than 1,700 women in transition through abroad spectrum of comprehensive services designed to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Northshore Branch YMCA, Bothell, Wash.
The YMCA English Language Learners Summer Program at the YMCA of Seattle’s Northshore Branch serves children from newcomer/immigrant families in the Greater Seattle area who have been identified by the school district as needing expanded English language assistance. The YMCA English Language Learners Summer Program is getting ready to celebrate its fifth year of service to the Northshore community and currently serves 60 students from six elementary schools.
Providence Metropolitan YMCA, R.I.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, offered by the Providence Metropolitan YMCA (one of 150 Ys participating), is a comprehensive program for cancer survivors and their families in partnership with the Lance Armstrong Foundation. As part of the LIVESTRONG program, the Providence YMCA assists in restoring strength and vitality in survivors following cancer treatment through a specialized 12-week program that focuses not only on exercise but also on the importance of empowerment, camaraderie, safety and connection with the whole family. The Providence YMCA has served 700 cancer survivors since 1999.
Urban Services YMCA, San Francisco, Calif.
Located in an underserved neighborhood of San Francisco, the Family Resource Center of the Urban Services YMCA is a refuge for families residing in the Oceanview, Merced Heights and Ingleside (OMI) neighborhood—an area challenged by high rates of poverty and crime and the lowest per capita income in the city. The Center empowers parents and caregivers through effective, culturally relevant parenting workshops, family counseling, support groups, a business center and community food pantry. Since opening its doors six years ago, the Urban Services YMCA Family Resource Center has served more than 10,000 families.
The YMCA of Greater Des Moines, Iowa
The Fatherhood Initiative of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines strengthens the parenting skills and increases the overall parental involvement of men who have been living apart from their children and/or involved in child support cases. Through ongoing weekly classes, the program offers instruction in health and nutrition, effective communication, co-parenting, financial education and community resources. Since its inception in 2006, the Fatherhood Initiative has served more than 150 participants.
